As the cigarette is lit I feel myself drift farther up and away from my surroundings, from familiar and contemporary musics and settings to some archaic overworld where all notes are kept. A cloud of minstrel witnesses that hangs heavy above every late night jam session or hungover morning recording attempt. Infinite orchestras are trapped there in smoky cages, a thousand pianos, eight hundred flutes; a mountain of drum kits teetering as the beat is passed down from it's peak to be deviated upon by those sitting at its base.
The sun is setting in Texas. The cigarette almost gone, I start to float back to the porch; but not before grabbing as many notes as possible before I leave.
about
An instrumental suite to accompany the smoking of one entire light blue or celadon American Spirit tobacco cigarette. I personally hate American Spirits but often find myself occupying my brain while waiting for someone else to finish one. This music came from such occupation.
Vive le dieu Stravinsky. Toutes mes excuses à Christian Vander.
